Supply List: Traditional oil painting
Below you will find a suggested supply list. As always professional supplies are much better than student or academic grade. You are more than welcome to bring in whatever you have at home and supplement with these suggested supplies. We do insist that you not bring in any strong smelling solvents or mediums. You will be asked to replace them. Please use, Gamsol’s OMS.

Canvas sets
Two to three Pre-stretched canvases in a standard size to start SUGGESTED SIZES–11” x 14”, 12 “ X 16, or 16” x 20”

Brush set
A wide variety of sizes. We use flat, filberts, and sometimes rounds. Have a least one very small brush like a liner or rigger, at least one ¼ “ flat, one ½” , and 1”, even larger would be great, one fan brush, one mop brush or fluffy brush for softening edges. Grumbacher makes decent brushes that are not too expensive. Rosemary Brushes are the in-thing right now.

Oil Paints
Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Light, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red Light, Permanent Alizarin Crimson, Viridian Green, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna – My preferred brands are Old Holland, Williamsburg, Michael Harding, or Natural Pigments (Look for non-toxic Titanium White, Cadmium is labeled as toxic. Please look for substitutes if this is of a concern to you or if you are a messy painter) Michael Harding offers a nice starter set!

Before investing in a wooden palette, a gray disposable paper palette works great in the classroom.

Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits
Only Gamsol odorless mineral spirits are permitted in class. One 16 oz container is needed.

Brush Tank
A brush cleaner helps with fast and efficient clean-up at the end of each painting session. Do not buy the Silicoil cleaner, you will use Gamsol to clean brushes.
